MILAB is Back: Swedish Audio Icon Restarts Production
Milab VIP-60
Stockholm, Sweden
The legendary Swedish microphone manufacturer MILAB, founded over 85 years ago, is officially back. Following its bankruptcy in August last year, the iconic brand has been revived with production now fully underway - and the first microphones once again leaving the factory.
David Stenmarck (Epidemic Sound/IMRSV)
The revival is led by David Stenmarck (Epidemic Sound/IMRSV) together with Andreas Liffgarden, music technology veteran and entrepreneur. Together, they have assembled a world-class team of engineers, designers, and industry specialists - a true dream team -united by a shared mission to restore MILAB to its rightful place in professional audio.
Originally established in Sweden 1939 as Pearl Microphones, MILAB earned global recognition for its uncompromising craftsmanship, technical innovation, and distinctive microphone designs, trusted by broadcasters, studios, and artists around the world. The company’s collapse last year marked the end of an era, but also the beginning of a powerful new chapter.
The first production batch marks a highly symbolic return: MILAB’s awardwinning flagship model, the VIP-series. Revered for its unique rectangular capsule design and exceptional sonic clarity, the VIP-series has been used by some of the most influential artists in music history, including Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Drake, and many others. Its reintroduction signals both continuity and renewed ambition.
“Reviving MILAB is both a responsibility and a privilege,” says David Stenmarck. “This is a brand deeply rooted in Swedish audio excellence, and also an important, largely untold part of the Swedish music wonder. To bring it back with the right people, the right values, and a long-term vision is a rare opportunity and an honor.”
Andreas Liffgarden (Spotify, Soundtrack Your Brand, Elektron, Tracklib)
Andreas Liffgarden adds:
“MILAB is not just a microphone company, it’s a legacy. Our goal has been to respect its heritage while building a modern, forward-looking manufacturer that serves today’s creators at the highest professional level.”
With production restarted in Sweden, led by production manager Hans Svensson who has worked with building MILAB microphones for the past 40 years. The top of the line model VIP-60 is once again manufactured, MILAB is reaffirming its commitment to precision engineering, premium materials, and sound quality without compromise.
Looking ahead, the company is already developing new product lines that expand beyond its classic portfolio, combining MILAB’s signature sonic character with next-generation engineering. Upcoming releases will include both modern studio tools and innovative designs aimed at meeting the evolving demands of today’s producers, artists, and broadcast professionals. While details remain under wraps, the leadership confirms that product development is moving at full speed.
The return of MILAB represents a rare moment in music technology: the revival of an iconic brand, not as a nostalgia project, but as a living, evolving company built for the future.
